Did anyone die in Energylandia? Accidents in Energylandia Park

I won’t hide it, but yes, Two serious accidents involving the Hyperion and RMF Dragon rollercoasters occurred in Energylandia, of which one mortal. Of course, apart from these two serious events, there were other dangerous situations (not directly related to the attractions), and in addition, there are often different opinions, rumors and unconfirmed descriptions of dangerous situations on the web. I will try to write about everything in detail, but let’s start with this, did anyone die in Energylandia? and what accidents occurred in the Energylandia park.

Did anyone die in Energylandia? Yes, there was one fatal accident

Many people ask: how many people died in Energylandia? I immediately answer that only (or as many as) one. And it was not a park guest, but a serviceman. The incident took place on August 16, 2018 at approximately 8:30 p.m., just before the park closed. One of the servicemen responsible for the Hyperion roller coaster entered the closed area under the track. Unfortunately, the line hit the 37-year-old employee with a huge impact. Despite the rapid response of paramedics and resuscitation, the employee could not be saved.

From the information I found, the employee went to a closed area to find the mobile phone of one of the guests who had previously ridden the Hyperion. However, I can’t understand how the serviceman didn’t hear the rollercoaster going by? And even if he did, why was he there, or at least not keeping the proper distance.

After an investigation by the prosecutor’s office and an inspection by the National Labor Inspectorate, the investigation was closed. No confirmation was found that the death of the 37-year-old was the fault of third parties who did not follow safety rules. It was determined that the employee’s death was the result of his unauthorized entry and violation of all applicable regulations at Energylandia.

I will add, as I also write in other posts, that it is completely forbidden to enter large attractions with any items in your pockets. It is not just about your phone falling out. A falling item can hit people riding in the next row at high speed and cause serious injuries. Take advantage of deposit lockers, it costs little and is easy and convenient to use.

Serious accident on Dragon in Energylandia

On May 27, 2015, another serious accident occurred at Energylandia, fortunately without fatalities. One of the gardeners entered the closed area under the RMF Dragon rollercoaster. At around 8:30 a.m., while the park was closed, a 35-year-old Ukrainian citizen went to the closed area around the Dragon rollercoaster. The rollercoaster was performing its test ride. As in the case of Hyperion, the employee was hit by the speeding rollercoaster. The gardener suffered serious injuries and was transported by helicopter to one of the hospitals in Krakow. It turned out that the employee from Ukraine only suffered broken ribs and an arm, and his condition was stable. Information provided by Energylandia later said that worker jumped over the fence and entered the construction site of the Dragon roller coaster.

Here, too, I cannot understand why the employee was not careful and did not hear the train passing by. Both of these situations show that despite the fencing of the area, complex safety procedures, checks and employee training, situations occur that could have been avoided if these people had used common sense.

Other potentially dangerous situations in Energylandia

There are quite a few different accounts of potentially dangerous incidents on the web. One of the latest, which was also covered by larger media, was the fainting of an 18-year-old girl. The situation took place during the summer holidays in 2021. In the afternoon, an 18-year-old girl waiting to ride one of the rollercoasters could not stand the intense heat. Standing in a long queue in the intense heat, she fell to the ground and lost consciousness. The girl was immediately given first aid and an LPR helicopter was called, which transported her to the hospital in Chrzanów.

Many other descriptions of the situation can also be found on social media, or even among opinions on Google Maps. If you come across them, do not pay much attention to them. Many descriptions do not present a real threat, circumstances, or ending. This makes it difficult to assess the seriousness of the situation.

The security system in Zadra has completely failed

However, I paid more attention to one of the recent negative comments. I quote:

[…] daughter the security system on Zadra has completely failed, if it weren’t for the reaction of my sister, who stopped the start of the train with a scream, the child would no longer be there… and it’s supposedly safe, but that’s true, something was wrong either with the electronics or with the staff, who are responsible for properly closing the safety devices.

I honestly admit that I am surprised that such a situation could even take place. Assuming that Zadra has about 120-150 rides every day and 24 people ride each time, that gives us about 3,000 people every day. Simplifying the calculations Since the premiere of Zadra, about 1 million guests have ridden it. I’m sure most people don’t check for themselves whether the safety catch is holding properly. What’s more, in Zadra the security is unique because it does not let up on its own Only by using our strength, which is relatively large, are we able to open them after the ride is finished.

If one girl out of a million guests decided to push the lock hard right after leaving the station and it just happened to open for her, then this is undoubtedly an incredible situation, unique and probably less likely than winning the lottery.

I do not want to judge this situation, because the media and Energylandia itself are silent on this issue, and the interested party itself did not describe in more detail what happened next, whether the main safety device gave way, or maybe just the belt.

What role does the belt play on attractions?

Objectively speaking, I think that only the belt itself came undone. It seems to me that this is even more possible because the belt buckle is pressed by the safety catch. And if the belt was not fastened all the way, it could have come loose at the buckle. More opinions about detachable seat belts can be found online. One of them talks about the seat belt coming undone on the Hyperion. The author of the opinion declared that she would not let this situation go and would report it to the appropriate places. However, the media is silent on this issue.

I don’t want to comment on these incidents. I’ll just add from my own perspective in the context of the belts themselves, that they are only psychological protection, which is even confirmed by one of the mechanics at Energylandia. They play practically no role. If the main safety device lets go, it will lift and block at a higher point on the runway. This will not help us much if we are experiencing negative overload. Therefore, the main safety devices must be failure-free.
